The alliance members use the standards set in the IEEE 802.11 which governs the deployment requirements for wireless local area network (WLAN) computer communication.

These members adhere to inter-operability of various wireless devices like laptops, personal digital assistants, handhelds and micro-PCs in receiving Wi-Fi access signals. This enables you to access the Internet wirelessly at home when you subscribed to a broadband wireless service, or in malls and other public places who receive Wi-Fi signals, regardless of the brand, make or manufacture of your gadget, as long as it meets the minimum operating system requirements of Wi-Fi service.
